An EBITDA margin print of 79.5% against 77.9% a year ago. Quarterly average AUM up 10% year-on-year to ₹9,691 billion.
The Indian asset management industry has had a complicated 18 months. SIP flows have continued to grow, but equity AUM growth has been uneven as markets have corrected and debt flows have swung between inflows and outflows across quarters.
Investors in listed AMC stocks have had to parse which franchises are actually sustaining their yield structure and which are seeing margins compress under the weight of competition and shifting product mix.
The name that has consistently remained in the top quartile on both metrics is HDFC Asset Management Company (NSE: HDFCAMC). The stock trades at ₹2,415, with a market capitalisation of approximately $10.9 billion, and sits meaningfully below the 52-week high of ₹2,967. The latest Q2 FY27 print has BOBCAPS, which continues to list the stock as one of its top picks.
“HDFC AMC reported steady operating performance, with margin expansion on account of decreased other expenses,” says BOBCAPS in its note.
The Operating Beat
Core earnings revenue grew 13.9% year-on-year and 6.4% quarter-on-quarter. EBITDA came in at ₹9,299 million, growing 16.1% year-on-year and 9.3% quarter-on-quarter. The headline margin print was the standout — 79.5% in Q2 FY27 against 77.9% in Q2 FY26.
“EBITDA came in at Rs 9,299 mn with a 16.1% YoY/9.3% QoQ growth while margins stood at 79.5% against 77.9% in Q2FY26. This was primarily led by degrowth in other expenses of 6.1% YoY,” BOBCAPS says in its report.
PAT grew 4.2% year-on-year but declined 10.6% quarter-on-quarter. The brokerage flags a specific comparability caveat on the headline PAT. “Q2FY27 PAT is not comparable with Q2FY26, as Q2FY26 benefited from a Rs 468 mn reversal of income tax provision,” BOBCAPS notes.
The Yield Uptick
The second meaningful development was in revenue yields. Overall revenue yields stood at 48 basis points versus 47 basis points in Q1 FY27 and 45 basis points in Q4 FY26. Equity yields came in at 58 basis points, with active equity yields at 61 basis points. Debt and liquid yields came in at 28-29 basis points and 13 basis points respectively.
“The management highlighted the sequential uptick in yields is due to higher equity share in product mix,” BOBCAPS says.
For an AMC, a sequential improvement in blended yields during a quarter where equity AUM is scaling faster than debt is the specific signal of a product mix moving in the right direction.
AUM Growth and Market Share
QAAUM grew 10% year-on-year and 3.6% quarter-on-quarter to ₹9,691 billion, with HDFC AMC continuing to hold its position as India’s third-largest AMC. Equity AUM was up 13.9% year-on-year and 6% quarter-on-quarter, with its market share stable at 12.7%. Debt AUM declined 12.9% year-on-year and 2.4% quarter-on-quarter, though overall market share held steady at 11% in Q2 FY27.
“Management expressed confidence in sustained industry growth over the medium to long term, supported by continued strength in SIP inflows and rising investor participation,” BOBCAPS notes.
The Rating and the Target
BOBCAPS has maintained BUY on HDFC AMC with a target price of ₹3,006, revised from the earlier ₹3,200, valuing the stock at 34x September 2028 estimated EPS. The implied upside from the current market price of ₹2,415 is approximately 24%.
“HDFC AMC remains well positioned to deliver steady growth, supported by its strong franchise, high equity mix, and superior profitability, which together justify its premium valuation. We expect PAT to grow at 13.6% CAGR over FY27-29E. We maintain BUY with TP of Rs 3,006 (Rs 3,200 earlier), valuing the stock at 34x its Sept’28E EPS. HDFCAMC remains to be our top pick,” BOBCAPS says.

The Key Risks
Of course, all this rests on continued equity AUM growth, sustained SIP flows, and the yield mix shift continuing to favour the equity side of the book. Any sustained equity market correction, a slowdown in SIP contribution growth, or heightened competitive pressure on fees would be the specific triggers that could pressure the forward trajectory.
