This FMCG Giant Just Broke Out of the Slowdown That’s Hurting the Rest of the Category

One of India’s largest FMCG franchises has delivered a quarter that materially outperformed the broader staples category.

The Indian FMCG space has been through a difficult 18 months. Rural demand recovery has been uneven, urban discretionary spending has moderated, and commodity cost volatility across cocoa, milk and sugar has pressured margins across the staples category.

Several large-cap FMCG names have delivered single-digit revenue growth prints through the recent quarters. The one name that has broken that pattern in Q2 FY27 is Nestle India (NSE: NESTLEIND). The stock trades at ₹1,257, with a market capitalisation of ₹2.42 lakh crore, and sits well below its 52-week high of ₹1,553.

“Nestle India reported a strong Q2 FY27 with revenue growth of 20.3% YoY to INR 6,788 Cr, driven by broad-based domestic demand, quick commerce traction and channel expansion,” says Deven Choksey Research in its note.

Channel Expansion

Revenue from operations grew 20.3% year-on-year to ₹6,788 crore in Q2 FY27, supported by 20.4% growth in domestic sales and 22.0% growth in exports. Quick commerce continued to gain traction through improved product availability and channel-specific offerings, while organised retail delivered strong growth across key categories.

Gross Margin Expansion

The operational beat was at the gross margin line. Gross margin expanded 240 basis points year-on-year to 56.9%, aided by favourable commodity costs and product mix. EBITDA grew 31.1% year-on-year to ₹1,615 crore, with margins improving 200 basis points to 23.8% — notable given that advertising spends were up 46% year-on-year in the quarter. PAT rose 36.3% year-on-year to ₹1,027 crore.

Portfolio Depth

Brand-level performance in the quarter was broad-based. KITKAT gained market share through new launches, while MAGGI expanded its reach through differentiated product offerings and the spicy range. Milk Products & Nutrition recorded broad-based growth and market share gains in toddler nutrition. Pet food brands FELIX, PRO PLAN and FRISKIES sustained strong double-digit growth.
