One Indian coffee major has delivered a quarter where the volume and margin story is doing more work than the headline topline suggests
The Indian coffee and specialty FMCG space has had an uneven two years. Green coffee price volatility has pressured realisations across the category, customer contract durations have shortened as buyers held off on long-term commitments, and the branded end of the coffee market has seen aggressive competitive intensity across both ecommerce and modern trade.
For investors in listed coffee names, the question has been less about whether volumes exist and more about whether the margin architecture holds through the price cycle.
The name that has consistently demonstrated it does is CCL Products (NSE: CCL). The company has delivered a Q2 FY27 print where the volume and the branded engine both continued to execute, even as lower coffee prices weighed on headline realisations. Axis Securities has maintained its BUY call on the stock, while trimming estimates to reflect near-term topline moderation.
“CCL Products reported 7.5% YoY revenue growth, driven by double-digit volume growth of 10-15%, although lower coffee prices weighed on realisations. Gross margin expanded by 339 bps to 37.9%, supported by a favourable FDC mix, while EBITDA grew 7.6% with margins stable at 17.5%, as higher freight and insurance costs offset gross profit gains,” says Axis Securities in its note.
Volume-Led Growth
The underlying growth engine is more impressive than the headline revenue number suggests. Volume growth of 10-15% year-on-year is being masked by lower per-unit realisations as green coffee prices have moderated — a mix the brokerage flags as healthy because volumes are the structural signal while prices are the cyclical one.
Freeze-Dried Coffee (FDC) demand continues to outpace Spray-Dried Coffee (SDC), supported by premiumisation and new customer additions. The 17,000 MT FDC capacity is approaching full utilisation over the next year.
“With its 17,000 MT FDC capacity approaching full utilisation over the next year, management expects to update its expansion plans by end-Q4FY27 or early Q1FY28, potentially through a strategic partnership. Improved coffee price stability has also enabled the resumption of longer-term customer contracts, enhancing demand visibility,” Axis Securities says in its report.
The return to longer-term customer contracts is the specific operational signal worth sitting with. For an ingredient supplier, contract duration is a direct read on customer confidence in forward price stability — and the resumption of longer contracts indicates buyers are now willing to commit again.
The Branded Segment Momentum
The branded coffee business continued to deliver 25% year-on-year growth, entirely volume-led, across e-commerce, modern trade and general trade. Domestic turnover reached ₹210 crore in the quarter, of which branded sales contributed ₹140 crore.
“Management has guided for full-year branded sales of Rs 550-600 Cr, with performance expected to accelerate in H2, supported by favourable seasonality in the Indian market. Management aims to sustain the 25% growth momentum going forward,” Axis Securities notes.
Branded coffee at a 25% volume CAGR against a backdrop of intense competitive activity in the segment is a specific positive signal for the long-term margin profile of the company — branded sales carry structurally higher margins than the ingredient business, and the mix shift as branded scales will support consolidated margins over multiple years.
Price Outlook
Green coffee prices have remained within the US$3,400 to 3,800 per ton range, with limited volatility ahead of the upcoming Vietnam harvest in November-December. The brokerage reads the stability as supportive for both near-term order flow and the resumption of longer-term contracts.
“Green coffee prices remain steady within the US$3,400 to 3,800 per ton range, exhibiting limited volatility prior to the upcoming harvest. The market trajectory hinges on the Vietnam crop arrival scheduled for November–December, which is anticipated to influence future price movements,” Axis Securities says.
Management has reiterated its FY27 guidance of 15% volume and EBITDA growth, with expected acceleration in H2 as customers finalise commitments post the Vietnam harvest.
“Management has reiterated its FY27 guidance of 15% volume and EBITDA growth, supported by strong expectations for H2 performance. Customers are currently deferring commitments until the Vietnam harvest materialises, with order inflows expected to accelerate from Nov-Dec onwards. Meanwhile, EBITDA/kg is expected to remain stable at Rs 135-140,” Axis Securities notes.

“Although we have cut our estimates, we maintain our BUY rating, supported by the company’s intact long-term growth prospects and the recent correction in the stock price,” Axis Securities says.

Key Risks
Green coffee price volatility remains the primary risk, with the Vietnam harvest outcome in November-December as the near-term swing factor. Higher freight and insurance costs continue to pressure margins and depend on management’s ability to pass them through via price revisions. Any delay in the FDC capacity expansion decision beyond Q1 FY28 would weigh on the medium-term volume trajectory.
